GBH Trophy results played at Dale Hill
Our 9th event out of 11 in the Mayfield Order of Merit competition and the scores at the top of the leader board are very tight. The trophy event was a pairs competition with the all-important draw done over bacon rolls. Dale Hill was recovering from a few days of wet weather, although the greens played well. The weather on the day was sunny and very warm.
We had a field of 22 which resulted in a 2-ball buggy setting the pace for the following 5 x 4 balls. The average for the day was under 30 and only 2 players played better than handicap. There was an outstanding individual round from Richard Hannam on his home course, with 3 birdies. John Collingwood kept up his good individual form with several low flying JC specials, including a chip in on the 5th. Rod Lunn managed a chip in from the bunker on 13th stroke index 1 to secure his birdie!
Adrian Underwood turned up in what appeared to be bed socks with his shorts setting an interesting fashion statement. The 2-ball buggy forgot to leave the nearest the pin in 2 marker on the 17th and in coming back to dop it off provided a caddy shack moment when their clubs came flying off the back of the cart! Graham Smith decided it was his turn to test out a lot of bunkers.
The pairs competition included an individual joker to be played on the hole of your choice, resulting in much tactical debate. Frank Goulding decided to play his on the nearest the pin hole, got a par and doubled his score to 8 points!
The eventual winning score came from Richard Hannam and Tony Willmott with 52 points, 2nd place was Andrew Burnett and Graham Smith with 48 points on countback closely followed by Adrian Underwood and John Collingwood.
Stuart Bourne hit a great shot to win nearest the pin (his 2nd on the trot) on the 5th and Graham Smith won nearest the pin in 2 on the 17th.
