Sweetwoods results
Sweetwoods was our 8th event out of 10 due to previous cancellation and abandonment. We were playing for the Mayfield Cup carried over from the abandoned Cooden Beach Day. Also the scores were counting towards the Mayfield Order of Merit competition and the scores at the top of the leader board are very tight.
The trophy event was an individual stableford competition with the current holder Peter Smith defending his trophy in a relatively small field of 14 eligible players. We welcomed 2 guests Richard Solomon and Phil Broom looking to become members of the society. Sweetwoods was in good condition although the greens were very slow. Good weather allowed some hardened members to continue playing in shorts.
With a field of 16, this resulted in 4 teams and for the team competition the best 2 from 4 on each hole counted. The average for the day was just under 30, with 2 players playing to handicap, resulting in good individual rounds for Peter Alfieri and Kelvin Paterson, with Kelvin winning The Mayfield Cup on countback.
There was 1 outright winning team 7 points ahead of two teams on 83. Jerry, Rod, Scot and Kelvin amassed 90 points with some very good scores in their 4 ball to take the team wine.
Peter Smith hit a great shot to win nearest the pin on the 5th although no birdie. Peter Alfieri hit 2 lovely shots to claim nearest the pin in 2 on the 16th, although again no birdie. In fact there was only 1 birdie scored by Kevan Gill and that was on the 17th.
