John Collingwood wins Last Chance Trophy
Wth a dire forecast for the entire country, a day on the coast was not looking great. We started out in light drizzle expecting to get drenched, yet by some miracle it cleared by 11.00 and we enjoyed dry if slightly breezy day by the sea. Eleven events out of eleven have gone to plan this year – zero cancellations which follows on from last year’s perfect record, can next year’s captain achieve the same record? A number of golfers arrived early, including Rob Weavers in order to avoid walking his dog!
A good field of 22 competed for the Last Chance Trophy with the average score being 33.41, which was lower than last year which was either down to the weather or the handicap secretary. The course was in good condition with no temporary greens and the fairways held up well after a lot of rain.
There was only 1 player over 40 points (8 players last year) John Collingwood with an excellent 42 points. Guy Barker and Phil Taylor were close behind with 39, with Guy beating Phil on countback over the last 6 holes.
Last year there were a few challenges with the catering, this year no such problem with a lovely fish and chips. This year’s Captains presentation went very smoothly, and everybody seemed to have a good day.
