Sadly the weather got the better of us for the traditional Xmas Dewlands Golf. However it did allow everyone to have a relaxed morning and amble to the Middle House for another excellent lunch at which Stuart Bourne was announced the MGS Golfer of the Year 2023.

Congratulations Stuart. You can see the details of how he did it and all the stats for 2023 in the Handicap Secretaries Report. Thank you again Micky for your meticulous record keeping.

Our outgoing Secretary, David Howroyd was master of ceremonies for our post lunch AGM where our outgoing Captain Mr Alan Bigley began proceedings with his round up of the year closely followed by the new Secretary for 2024 Mark Hughes, announcing the venues and costs for the coming season. Thank you Alan for all your efforts – and as was said at the beginning of the year, how good it was to be led by an actual real golfer!!!

James Gallifant presented the accounts with the Society still in good financial health but with price rises across the board, warned of a tighter year ahead though the membership fee would remain at £30.

A new committee was then voted in comprising: Chris Buck as Captain and Kevin Leftley his vice for the 2024 season. Jerry Watkiss stepped down from the committee after 8 years to be replaced by Alan Bigley as Members Representative and Mark Hughes taking over as Secretary. James remains Treasurer as does Micky as Handicap Sec.

Finally it fell to Mark to thank David for all his hard work over the past 8 years as Secretary and presented him with a very fetching cycle top for his efforts after which the afternoon concluded with a strong contingent retiring to the Rose and Crown for some in depth analysis of the seasons ups and downs!

Happy Christmas everyone and look forward to seeing you all at Lewes in January
