Brian Day edges out Carl Valentine on countback to win at Cooden with 41 points

Twenty-one ladies and gentlemen (including Barry) enjoyed good weather at Cooden Golf Club which is becoming a firm fixture and favourite in our annual itinerary.  A moderate breeze made some holes very tricky and tough but the scoring was surprisingly good with the average for the day being an impressive 31.76!

Individual Stableford

Following on from last month’s event some exceptionally good scoring is reflected in the table below:-

Place Individual Score
Winner Brian Day 41 (23 back 9 count-back)
Second Carl Valentine 41 (22 back 9 count-back)

Carl’s round included birdies at the 5th, 8th, 10th, 14th and 18th

Third Kelvin Paterson 39 on count back from Jerry Watkiss

Front 9 scores also worthy of note were Jerry Watkiss (23 points) and Tim Gorringe (21 points)

Back 9 scores also worthy of note were Kelvin Paterson (24 points) Tony Batchelder (21 points) and David Howroyd (20 points) in addition to Brian and Carl above.

Winner Nearest the Pin (Hole 12th):  Pat Layen – with a fine blow to the heart of the green and then going on to make a solid par.

Winner Longest Drive (Hole 18th):  Carl Valentine – excellent shot passing Alan Bigley’s solid strike by only a foot or so.

Thus, two more individuals join the 40+ club for the year making a total of five:

Name Points Course
Barry Browning 48 Lewis

Pat Layen 41 Dale Hill
Carl Valentine 41 Cooden
