25th Anniversary Society Day at Cooden
A delighted Tom Bennett receives the inaugural MBG 25th Anniversary cup from founding member Pat Layen
Exceptional rounds by Gallifant and Mann but they were pipped at the post by Bennett who wins the inaugural Anniversary Trophy with 40 points
A very enjoyable golf day was held at Cooden Beach on a beautiful but breezy day by the seaside. The average score for the day was an impressive 32 stableford points on a challenging course which the attendees very much enjoyed. A fantastic new trophy was up for grabs that recognises the club is 25 years young this year and still has a few of the founding members amongst our ranks. Twenty members entered the competition with the winners being:-
Anniversary Trophy (Individual Stableford off full society handicaps)
Place | Individual | Score |
Winner | Tom Bennett | 40 |
Second | Micky Mann | 39 |
Third | James Gallifant | 38 |
Tom’s second win of the year which is a fantastic achievement – well done. Unfortunately he pipped the Hon Handicap Sec to the win (a bad mistake) meaning a 4 shot cut to his handicap for his general good play and for achieving a second win in the year for next time!
A special mention goes to James Gallifant a recent new member who played very well with a very tidy card – nice to see our new members performing so well and bringing some new energy to the thriving club.
Team Stableford Competition
The usual best two stableford scores from three counted in this competition – which was won only on count back:-
Place | Team Members | Score |
Winners | Dave Stocker, Kelvin Paterson, Brian Day & Tom Bennett | 82 (44 count back on back 9) |
Second | Tim Gorringe, Mark Hughes & Kevin Weaver | 82 (42 count back on back 9) |
Third | Jerry Watkiss, Pat Layen & Micky Mann | 79 |
Winner Longest Drive (Hole 18): Carl Valentine
Winner Nearest the Pin (Hole 7): Pat Layen
A handful of birdies on the day including one from Jerry Watkiss on the most difficult hole stroke index wise:-
Player | Hole |
Jerry Watkiss | A three on the par 4 11th (Stroke Index 1) |
Peter Cudmore | A two on the par 3 12th |
Micky Mann | A two on the par 3 12th |
Pat Layen | A two on the par 3 14th |
Nick Marchant | A two on the par 3 16th |
Another really enjoyable day on a great course, with good company. Our next outing is at Ifield near Crawley on the 19th August where the Society Strokeplay Trophy and the Society Stable ford Shield are up for grabs. A course that we have not played for some time but is getting rave reviews – feel free to book early through the normal channels – more details will follow as always.
