Seaford Head results

Hon Sec David Howroyd had a fantastic round of golf at Seaford Head to take the individual honours on the rescheduled day at Seaford Head GC

The rearranged “Fun Day” at Seaford Head saw 16 players battle it out for various prizes.  The weather was good for a change with potentially the curse of Captain Cudmore now behind us, fingers crossed. Indeed the conditions allowed many players to thrive with the average stableford score in the individual competition being a massive 37, comfortably the highest of the year so far.

The morning started with an eleven hole Texas Scramble which saw some fabulous golf with the winning team having birdies on holes one, four, five, eight and nine.  Thus, the winners were clear of the chasing field as follows:

Place Team Members Score
Winners Keith & Grieg Wapling, Matt Caulfield-Brown & Paul Hillman -5
Second Andy Bishop, Micky Mann, Peter Cudmore & Jerry Watkiss -3
Third Tim Gorringe, Clive Butler, David Howroyd & Brian Cheesmur Level
Fourth Ken Wapling, Ray Hamilton, Frank Goulding & James Gallifant +2

The Individual Stableford Competition.

Playing off full society handicaps the winner our very own Hon Sec Mr David Howroyd handed in a card showing a round of 10 pars and nothing worse than a six recorded. Thus, the winners and close but alas no cigar results were as follows:-

Place Individual Score
Winner David Howroyd 46
Second Paul Hillman 42 (22 on the back 9 count back)
Third Micky Mann 42 (20 on the back 9 count back)

Fair to say that handicaps have been adjusted accordingly!!

Team Stableford Competition

The usual best two stableford scores from three counted in this competition – bearing in mind the individual competition one team in particular looked well placed. The results were:-

Place Team Members Score
Winners David Howroyd, Brian Cheesmur & James Gallifant 94
Second Keith & Grieg Wapling, Matt Caulfield-Brown & Paul Hillman 91
Third Tim Gorringe, Clive Butler & Jerry Watkiss 90

Winner Longest Drive (Hole 10th):  Keith Wapling

Winner Nearest the Pin (Hole 7): Jerry Watkiss

With two potential rounds to go this year a number of members have already qualified for the player of the year competition which goes to the player with the best four rounds “combined score” for the year.  Unfortunately the Ifield and Mannings Heath 9 holes and abandoned appearances and scores  have been excluded from the list below.

Player Score
MANN, Michael 153.00
WATKISS, Jerry 150.00
HOWROYD, David 141.00
CUDMORE, Peter 140.00
PATERSON, Kelvin 133.00
WAPLING, Ken 133.00
GALLIFANT, Jim 131.00
DAY,  Brian 130.00
BUTLER, Clive 129.00
CHEESMUR, Brian 127.00
COPPARD, Derek 121.00
GORRINGE, Tim 121.00
STOCKER, Dave 119.00
LAYEN, Pat 115.00
TIPPETT, Andy 115.00

So, all to play for with a number of players having already put together a decent set of three but need to get another appearance in to be added to the list above before the book closes.  Also we need to bring in an auditor as the Handicap Sec is at the top followed by the rest of the MGS committee – strange that !!
