Three tied on 42 points in the clubhouse but Day wins out over Ablitt and Valentine on count-back.
An excellent take up for the 15th May Golf Day at Mid-Sussex GC. The scoring was high and very competitive on a dry but overcast day perfect for golf.
The Individual Stapleford competition saw 3 players in clubhouse on 42 points. Carl Valentine who was 2 over par gross after 9 holes unfortunately carded a double bogey at both the 17th and 18th that cost him the title outright. On back 9 count-back (19 points) despite a cracking round of golf he was placed third. This left Captain Fred Ablitt and Brian Day who both carded a back 9 count-back score of (22 points). The handicap secretary then looked at the last 3 holes on count back where a double bogey at the last compared to bogey made all the difference with Captain Fred (6 points) coming a very close second to a triumphant Brian Day (7 points).
Winner: Brian Day (42 points)
Runner Up: Captain Fred Ablitt (42 points)
Third Place: Carl Valentine (42 points)
The Team Stapleford Competition was just as close with the best three stapleford scores on each hole counting towards this competition. The winning team averaged 7.16 points per hole which was outstanding.
|Winners||Carl Valentine, Alan Bond, Clive Butler & Andy Tippett||130|
|Runners up||Mike Sellence, Micky Mann, Brian Day & Peter Cudmore||129|
|Third Place||Pat Layen, Jerry Watkiss, Rob Weavers, Captain Fred||125|
This result left Micky Mann crying in to his beer over a missed 8 inch putt on the last that could have tied the team competition!
The Longest Drive was won on the 10th hole by Mike Sellence who was on sparkling driving form throughout the day. Well done Mike.
The Nearest the Pin competition was won by Brian Day adding to his individual success.
