Micky Mann wins at East Brighton

IMG_5005

Despite an eagle 3 on the last Andy Williams is pipped at the post on count back by Micky Mann

A low turnout of only 10 on one of the best February days in memory – spring like weather welcomed us to East Brighton – a great shame more members could not make this event. The average for the day was a very good 33.1 with the season starting with two good scoring days of golf on courses in great condition for January and February (Royal Eastbourne Jan ave 33.2). Of note was Andy Williams eagle the first the society has seen for over 4 years!

Individual Stableford

With a fantastic 38 points and playing very well on the back 9 Micky Mann won the individual prize.

Place Player Score
Winner Micky Mann 38 (23B9CB)
Second Andy Williams 38(18B9CB)
Third David Howroyd 37

Team Stableford

Surely Mick Mann’s team are well placed to win this – maybe not !! The best two scores from the teams of three counted: –

Place Team Score
Winner Tony Batchelder, Andy Williams, Alan Bigley & John Collingwood 80
Second James Galifant, Mark Hughes & David Howroyd 79
Third Kevin Leftley, Kelvin Paterson & Micky Mann 74

Winner Longest Drive: Alan Bigley with another massive hit

Winner Nearest the Pin:  Kelvin Paterson hit a nice shot to with 12 ft – will he make birdie ….no……will he make par…..no….will he make bogey…..yes just !!

Anorak moment of the report is the day saw 4 birdies and an eagle which takes the seasons total to 14: –

Player Hole Score
Andy Williams 3rd 3 on the 341yd Par 4 (SI 11)
John Collingwood 5th 4 on the 546yd Par 5 (SI 13)
Alan Bigley 11th 4 on the 435yd Par 5 (SI 6)
Andy Williams 18th 3 on the 455yd Par 5 (SI 18)
David Howroyd 18th 4 on the 455yd Par 5 (SI 18)

Also worthy of note was the speed of the round – Kelvin has now played two rounds in under 4 hours this year – who can believe it!

The next monthly meeting is for the Mad March Jugs Trophies – a pairs competition at the tight Copthorne Golf Club  – full details nearer the time.  Hopefully we will attract a good number and ideally an even number! to this event 18+ players would be nice.
