Micky Mann pips vice-captain Kevin Leftley on count back to win the MGS Foundation Trophy with a superb points total of 45

Captain Chris Buck warmly welcomed the society to Sweetwoods on a lovely day for some fun and frolics on Captains day (yes frolics and not what Keith shouted when miss hitting his tee shot on the 4th which sounded similar !)

We had 27 players (28 would have been ideal) with a warm welcome to Scott Wightman joining us for the first time. The condition allowed some heavy scoring to occur, for some anyway. The average stableford score for this event was 31.70 – second highest of the year so far. Micky with a very questionable handicap for a part-timer edged out Kevin (no gimmies or else) Leftley on count back only.

The putting competition that followed saw Mark Hughes, Phil Taylor and Rod Lunn holing one of their two putts on a tricky sloping fast green.  A good bit of fun to end the round.

As rare as hens teeth Pete Smith scored a remarkable 10 points on the stroke index 2 4th hole with a birdie off a 23 handicap giving him 5 points (double to 10) with his joker having been played !!

Also worth of note was another excellent round from Biggers Bigley scoring a gross 76 just four over par for his round which is a very high standard of golf indeed.

A big thank you to Captain Buck and Hon Sec Mark Hughes for organising the competitions and prizes for the day.   A good fun day was had by all on a course we should keep visiting on a regular basis.

MGS Foundation Trophy

This event was played off full society handicaps with all players “putting out” this being a silverware event.  Each player could play a joker on one hole which doubled the stableford score achieved on just that one hole : –
