Last Chance trophy results
We were very lucky with a cloudy yet benign day for our day by the sea. Eleven events out of eleven have gone to plan this year – zero cancellations which follows on from last year’s perfect record. Can next year’s captain achieve the same record?
An excellent field of 26 competed for the Last Chance Trophy with the average score for the day being 35.62 – more than 3 higher than last year, and thus achieving the best average record for the year. The course was in good condition with no temporary greens and despite the fairways being spiked played well all round.
There were 8 players with 40 points or more with Tony Willmott coming in with an excellent 44 points, 24 on the back 9 resulting in just five over par for those nine holes. He was followed closely by Rob Weavers 43pts and Adrian Underwood 42pts.
There were a few challenges with the catering and kitchen at Seaford post round, resulting in one of the longest lunch sittings ever. They only had the capacity to cook 6 meals at once, resulting in over 4 sittings so by the time we eventually moved onto the presentations, it was practically dark. But finally, captain Chris carried out his formal duties in his normal smooth manner – that is, before he forgot to give out the actual trophy, then tried to give it to the wrong winner!
Thanks to Captain Chris for his quick thinking in presenting the same empty bottle of Veuve Clicquot to all our winners!!
I’ve been assured this will be rectified at the Xmas lunch

The societies next event is scheduled for FRIDAY 6th December at Holtye GC – a nine-hole scramble followed by a cracking Christmas lunch and the AGM at The Middle House. VERY IMPORTANT to get your attendance confirmed and your menu selected ASAP – just so Mark knows the numbers for lunch etc. Should be another good final fling getting us into the festive spirit in early December.
