Lamberhurst GBH results
Our 7th event out of 9 (normally 11 – 1 event cancelled and 1 abandoned) in the Mayfield Order of Merit competition and the scores at the top of the leader board are very tight. The trophy event was a pairs competition with the all-important draw done over bacon rolls. Lamberhurst is recovering well after the dry weather and parched fairways, the greens were excellent, tricky and very true. After arriving in the rain the weather cleared up and turned out to be sunny and quite warm.
We had a field of 22 which resulted in a 2-ball Alan Bigley and Scot Wightman setting the pace for the following 5 x 4 balls. The average for the day was just over 30, with 3 players playing better than handicap, resulting in good individual rounds for Alan Bigley, Richard Hannam and Graham Smith.
There were 3 teams tied on 43 points with eventual winning score for the GBH Trophy coming from Richard Hannam and Kevan Gill on countback, 2nd place was Graham Smith and Keith Townsend, closely followed by Alan Bigley and Scot Wightman. The lowest team score was 32 points from Pete “Bryson” Smith and John Collingwood.
Alan Bigley hit a great shot to win nearest the pin on the 7th and Lamberhurst member David Howroyd won nearest the pin in 2 on the 18th. There were only 6 birdies carded and no two’s.
