Our 5^th event of the year was held at Kings Hill Golf Club for our first individual trophy – The Anniversary Cup – a stableford event together with our regular team competition.  The course was in very good condition and the greens exceptional for this time of year.  The weather was excellent and the course in great condition – albeit very dry and fast, particularly the greens.

We had 18 players competing for the cup and two teams of 3 and three teams of 4 competing against each other.

With all three scores counting in the team of three and one dropping out in the team of 4, all members needed to contribute on each hole.

Most teams did this well, with 12 points separating 4 teams, but one team in particularly did this exceptional well – Guy/John/Joe scoring 118 and winning by a mile.

This was helped by our new member Guy Barker hitting a fantastic eagle on the par 5 491 yards 12th hole – most of us found difficulty finding the green in 3, let alone holing out.

The average score for the day was 33 off the yellow tees, with 5 players dropping into the twenties, with the rest recording some good scores in the thirties – three birdies were posted.

However, three players had excellent rounds in the 40’s, with a great start by Guy on 40.

Joe Caroll the defending champion thought he had won it on 42, but the man of the week  – James Gallifant – who we thought had peaked by scoring 44 at Wellshurst GC on Wednesday, had another brilliant round and repeated that score here at Kings Hill to win the Anniversary Cup.

The axe will be out and swinging by the handicap secretary!!

Andrew Jenner hit a great shot to win nearest the pin on the 6th and Will Lunn proved that he does have good golf shots in his locker by hitting an excellent drive and then a better 2nd shot into the green on the 15th to win closest to the pin in 2.

The day was rounded off by a great bangers and mash.
