Dale Hill results
The winner of the Captain’s Day Trophy was Jerry Watkiss – decided on count-back after four good scores of 34 points were posted on a superb day organised by Mr Peter Cudmore
With the exception of the final two groups who got caught by a rain shower on the final holes of the course we were very lucky with the weather (overcast and humid). Our Captain organised a fabulous day’s golf on the Woosnam course at Dale Hill where the fairways and greens were in immaculate condition. Seven teams of three battle out to win one or two of the seven competitions up for grabs all which culminating in the Captain’s Day Trophy for the best overall stableford score for the day.
Team Stableford Competition
The first competition saw the pressure build on the teams through the course of the round. The best stableford score from the 3 players counting for holes 1 to 6 PLUS the best two stableford scores counting from the team of 3 for holes 7 to 12 PLUS all three of the stableford scores counting for the 3 players on holes 13 to 18. An interesting and very close competition materialised
Place | Team Members | Score |
Winners | Pat Layen, Tim Gorringe & Tom Bennett | 72 |
Second | Mark Hughes, Ken Wapling & Alan Bond | 71 |
Third | Jerry Watkiss, Clive Butler & Kelvin Patterson | 70 |
Two separate stableford, nearest the pin and longest drive competitions were held as follows:-
Gents Individual Stableford for players off 21 to 28 handicaps (inclusive)

The two competitions were then brought back together to decide the overall Captain Days Trophy winner. The average score across both groups on the day was 29.5 stableford points on a long and challenging course. The Trophy winners and runners up were as follows:

Many thanks go to Peter Cudmore our Captain who organised a splendid day at Dale Hill and was rewarded with second place in the Gents Stableford.
A massive thank you goes to our Captain for this season Peter Cudmore who obviously put in a great deal of effort both on the day and in advance to make it a special day. Peter was supported by our Hon Sec David Howroyd and Treasurer Andy Tippett. A really enjoyable day on a great course, with good company and some nice prizes.
Also worthy of note that after two good rounds this year Carl Valentine will be playing off 9 at his next event – our first single figure handicap for a few years – well done Carl !!
