With all the injuries and work commitments, a fit-ish 17 players were able to compete for our 4th event and 3rd actual outing of the year.

Three teams of three and two teams of four made up the event, with the best two scores counting for the team competition from three, and the teams of four rotating a non counting player.

A lovely sunny but very breezy day greeted us on the chalk downs of East Brighton.

The course was very dry and the greens quick which, combined with the strong breeze, made for challenging conditions on most of the holes but there was some respite in the middle of the front 9, where conversation was at last possible while your senses returned to normal.

Ball flight was certainly interesting as players of all abilities scoured various boundary edges to find that elusive drive ‘that got away’!

The average score for the day was only 27, which was mostly down to the conditions, although some did mention the harsh hand of the handicap secretary !!!

One player who calmly navigated his way round was David who won on 35 who sadly had to leave before the presentations. However your wine is in safe hands!!

In the team competition, 4 teams were all very close on 62, 65, 65 and 68, however, the winning team were a mile ahead on 77, lead by David, and supported by Jerry and Andrew B both on 31.

One team thought they had won it on an amazing score, but unfortunately they had counted 3 scores on each hole instead of 2!! A quick thank you at this point to Vice Captain Rod who stepped in to cover the injured Graham Smith and decipher this months array of cards – always a bit of a challenge.

Nearest the pin on the 7th hole was particularly challenging with balls flying all over the place – furthest from the pin was probably won by Andrew B who was miles on the adjacent fairway! Peter managed to chip in for a birdy, but the only player to actually land on the green was Kevan. Well done to him.

Nearest the pin in two on the 13th had more competition, with the wind behind, many were able to drive near the green. After a great chip from the 14th fairway and some careful measuring, Andy Williams was deemed the winner. His chipper was hot on the 9th hole as well where he chipped in from off the green.

Seven birdies in total were holed; Andrew B – 15th, Alan B – 12th, Mark – 13th & 16th, Tony – 18th, and Peter 7th & 18th.

A good pie and vegetables followed, with Graham winning the all important heads and tails.
