Stuart Bourne wins the Strokeplay Shield with David Howroyd taking the Stableford Shield on warm day at Nizels golf club

An interesting start to the day with The Hon Sec calling the Handicap Sec and worrying because he was the only one at the course with the Handicap Sec just about to get in to his car for the 50 min journey.  A few expletives later which we can paraphrase as “gosh we might have made an error with the start time on the website” a rallying call to all was made to get on the course as soon as possible.  Meanwhile the Hon Sec went through an hours warm up routine on the range followed by a putting lesson before we arrived (just joking – but see results below !!).  The staff at the course were great providing the bacon roll on the first tee which was eaten walking down the first and second fairways by most.  We had 17 players across the two competitions. The average stableford score for this event was 32.12 which is pretty good.  By all accounts the members really enjoyed the course and the weather and agreed we should return on a regular basis to this course.

Strokeplay Result

The strokeplay shield competition was fiercely fought with the last group including the winner arriving back in the clubhouse shortly before it got dark – a search party was on standyby.  After being runner up last year Stuart Bourne edged out Phil Taylor in this competition to win his first piece of silverware:-
