Society Captain Mr Kevin “you must putt out or else” Leftley wins singles competition at Seaford (Blatchington)
The course with a moderate breeze blowing in to our faces on what seemed like most holes the course which is long to start with was playing extremely long. However a course that many liked and would welcome a return to in the future maybe in the summer months.
A good number of 23 took part in this competition with just one late dropout that was manageable. The handicap secretary had one of those days – initially being later to the venue than intended with Mr Burnett very helpfully marking up the cards (many thanks) he then scored nothing on the first two holes, he then ran Stuart over with his golf trolley on the 17th (accidentally I might add) and then made a bit of a Horlicks of reading out the winners and runners up at the end of the day. Other than that he had a great time!!
Well done to Kevin with a well deserved win and with a score of reason rather than being in the mid to high 40s. The results of this event are set out below:-
Individual Stableford
A non-trophy event on this occasion with the top three all playing exceptionally well in tough conditions:-
Place | Player | Score |
Winner | Kevin Leftley | 34 |
Second | Richard Hannam | 33 (B9CB 18) |
Third | Tony Willmott | 33 (B9CB 13) |
Team Competition
The top three groups were as follows in this best of two from three competition with the usual battleship shading out for the fourballs :-
Place | Player | Score |
Winners | Peter Cudmore, James Gallifant, Andy Williams & Keith Townsend (sorry Keith for getting my Y-fronts in a twist at the presentation !) | 74 |
Second | Joe Carroll, Rob Weavers & Tony Willmott | 70 |
Third | Graham Smith, Richard Hannam, David Howroyd & Peter Smith | 67 |
Nearest the Pin in One (7th Hole 145 yards)
David Howroyd and Phil Taylor both winning this specialist event due to oversight by the handicap Sec – sack him we say.
Nearest the Pin in Two (10th Hole 314 yards)
No winners with some of us playing the hole in a hooley. I just looked up where “hooley” originates from and it not from Scotland as I had thought for many a year.

Just four birdies on the day:-
