Seaford Head
A gloriously sunny and warm day heralded an exciting days play at Seaford Head. It was our first visit for two years while the new clubhouse was being built and it was certainly worth the wait – a great improvement with the general consensus that it had been a good use of tax payers money!
Although missing a few regular players due to holidays, we none-the-less fielded 17 players who played an 11 hole texas scramble in the morning. Following a rather hasty ham egg and chips for lunch we played an 18 hole stapleford competition in the afternoon with a curry for dinner accompanied by the normal liquid refreshments
In the absence of Micky Mann (Statto) the task of card writing, rules and results was handed to yours truly, Jerry Watkiss. Not his finest hour in that he managed to give the results in completely the wrong order. For the team of Peter Cudmore, Alan Bond and Frank Goulding the memory of receiving their winning wine from Captain Fred was short-lived – they had in fact come last! After a hasty apology the correct team of Pat Layen, Phil Herbert and Chris Buck rightly received their prize with a nett score of 36.92 (over 11 holes).
In the afternoon, some great scores were recorded with five players in the forties – notably Dave Stocker with a creditable 41pts – an excellent achievement and proof that if you spend enough on a driver you will do get results!! The average for the stapleford competition was 37 which proves what a good day it was.
Pat Layen was the overall winner just knocking Chris Buck into second place on count back with 43 points. However the team prize went to Andy Tippet, Ashley Head, Dave Stocker and Brian Chesmiur also on count back with a total score of 92.
Congratulations to all our winners on what proved to be one of the most enjoyable days of the year so far. We look forward to seeing as many of you as we can at our next outing to Chartham Park in September. Check back to this site for details
