Seaford Head

Firstly, thanks for a good showing at Ifield. It’s a shame that the weather once again took it’s toll – Capn Cudmore could be at risk of presiding over our most weather affected year, with 2 complete rounds lost so far and 4 meetings to go! I’m sorry that the curtailment on Friday was not universally supported, and clearly those who wanted to continue were vindicated by the later improvement. Your Committee will establish a protocol for this in future, with my suggestion being that the Captain (as ultimate decision taker) should always be out early, with other committee members contactable by mobile to consult. Please let me have any suggestions or comments.

Here are details of our next meeting:

Venue: Seaford Head Golf Course, Southdown Road, Seaford, BN25 4JS
Date: Friday 16 September 2016
Time: 8:45 for 9:45 tee off
Format: Tea/coffee + bacon rolls on arrival, 11 hole Texas Scramble followed by lunch and 18 hole Stableford. Two course meal to finish. Dress for meal: smart casual. If you require a buggy please book ahead directly with the course, I believe numbers are limited.
Cost: £50 per head

Prizes: Dave (I’m glad to still be still be here at 60) Stocker has kindly offered to provide the prizes for the Stableford competition, and for LD AND NTP. So thanks to Dave for this very generous gesture.

The rate I have negotiated offers great value for 29 holes + 3 lots of food, so I’m sure we can look forward to another good turnout. We need a minimum of 20, otherwise we’re in the red, so please confirm your ability to attend asap by message to bookings@mayfieldgolfingsociety.com and by close of business Monday 12 Sept latest, and transfer payment into the club account in the usual way.

And let’s hope for a repeat of the great weather we had there last year, so we can all enjoy those spectacular views.

OTHER STUFF

  1. Can you please give me an early indication of your availability for the Christmas Meeting + AGM at Dewlands on Dec 16th. We need this as we may need to book the larger dining room at the Middle House this year, given the recent very welcome increase in members. For new members, the format is morning golf at Dewlands Manor (weather permitting!) followed by AGM, Christmas Dinner and general piss up at the Middle House in Mayfield. We have to vacate the restaurant by about 5:30, whereupon we repair to the bar, so it’s generally best to not have an evening at church or the opera booked for afterwards.

Please let me know at same time as you confirm Seaford Head.

2. I’ll be getting on with course selection for 2017 shortly, and would welcome feedback from members on 2 things:

  • courses we’ve been to in 2016 where you’d like to return
  • other courses you’d like us to consider

Many thanks, and see you at Seaford Head, hopefully.
