For the third time this year Kevin Weaver wins!
After edging out Carl Valentine on count back at Westerham and Micky Mann on count back at Chartham Park earlier in the year Kevin Weaver wins at Piltdown by 3 shots.
16 players attended the outing at Piltdown on a very tough golf course. Dereck Coppard made a very welcome return to the fold and played well walking away with a couple of prizes which was great to see.
For a course with no bunkers it was surprising how much sand was on the course following the hollow tining and dressing of the greens for winter. This no doubt contributed to the low average stapleford score for the day of 26.19 which is lowest for the year by a couple of points. The only birdie of the day was by Dereck Coppard on the 159 yard par 3 10th. However, the day was generally regarded as very good value for money with an excellent meal taken in the evening in the club house.
The Individual Stapleford Competition:-
- Winner: Kevin Weaver (36 points)
- Runner Up: Carl Valentine (33 points)
- Third Place: Dereck Coppard (32 points)
The Team Stapleford Competition:-
- Winners: Derek James, Dereck Coppard & Phil (Hon Sec) Herbert (76 points)
- Runner Up: Carl Valentine, Tim Gorringe & Dave Stocker (71 points)
The Longest Drive was won on the 14th hole by Carl Valentine – a big drive
The Nearest the Pin sharp shooter was Dereck Coppard on the 138 yard par 3 7th Hole.
A thank you goes to Phil Herbert for organising for the day and standing in for the handicap secretary who was returning from business in Manchester on the morning of the day.
The next outing is on the 13th November at Willingdon GC the home course of our Captain Fred Ablitt. Please get your entry in early for this event which is for the pairs GBH Trophy – further details as always will follow in due course.
