Order of Play – August 2018 – Seaford Head GC

Captain’s (Clive Butler’s) day this year is at Seaford which was one of the first towns in England to establish a golf club.  The first two golf clubs to be established in Sussex were at Eastbourne and here at Seaford where the club was founded by a small number of local residents on 6th August 1887 initially consisting of 12 holes before being extended to an 18 hole in 1889. In 1940 the Course was requisitioned by the military for the duration of the war and ploughed up for food production, some of this being evident today on the 4th, 15th and 18th holes. It was reconstructed in 1946.

Time:               8.45amfor 9.45am first tee off

Format:            Tea/coffee + bacon rolls on arrival, one course lunch following the 11-hole Texas Scramble and a one course eve meal (6pm ish) following the 18-hole competition.

Dress Code       Smart casual for the eve meal please.

A very good turnout of 22 players will competing across five competitions as follows: –

AM – Team Texas Scrabble

11-hole strokeplaycompetition in teams of three.  As a reminder each member of a scramble team plays his or her own golf ball throughout. But with each strokeplayed, the three team members compare results and select the one best shot. The other team members move their balls to that location, and the next stroke is played from there. However, please note each player must contribute 3 drives which should be marked on the card and every hole must be putted out.

NB: I have ensured each team contains a high, medium and low handicapper (from three draw pots) so it is straight lowest score over 11 holes wins – no handicap adjustments!

NB: We need to get around in just over 2 hours to enable lunch to be taken on a rolling basis and then be back on the first tee for the 18-hole competition within 3 hours of first teeing off.

PM – Individual Stableford Competition

18-hole stableford competition off full society handicaps.

PM – Team Competition

The best 2 stableford scores from the teams of 3 count for this competition over 18 holes.

PM – Nearest the Line

The 8thhole

PM – Nearest the Pin

The long 4thHole
