Nizel results

John Collingwood wins his second event of the year with another fine display of tee to green golf at Nizels Golf & Country Club in July

A good turnout of 18 on a day where we very unlucky with the weather, playing probably 7 to 8 holes in drizzle with the occasional heavy squally shower – a shame on a fantastic course that the society really like and appreciate.  We welcomed another new member Mr Graham Meadows to the fold who had a solid first outing with the society.  The course was very different from the parched fairways we were met with last year playing much longer with both quick and true greens. The average stableford score for the day was 31.22.

Individual Stableford

Leading the field by two John Collingwood wins the individual competition at Nizels GC.  His handicap will no doubt be getting a further haircut as a result!

Place Player Score
Winner John Collingwood 38
Second Tom Bennett 36 (21 B9CB)
Third Alan Bigley 36 (18 B9CB)

Team Stableford

The best two scores from the teams of three counted: –

Place Team Score
Winner Kelvin Paterson, Alan Bigley & John Collingwood 82
Second Graham Meadows, Mark Hughes & David Howroyd 79
=Third Jerry Watkiss, Andrew Burnett & Alan Bond 77
=Third Micky Mann, Kevin Hawkins & Frank Goulding 77

Winner Nearest the Line:  Mark Hughes (long and within 2 ft of the line)

Winner Nearest the Pin:  Pat Layen – who was one of a select group who hit the green on this tricky short hole.

Anorak moment of the report is the day saw only 4 birdies (taking the season total to 31 (34 in 2018 at the same point)-

Player Hole Score
Micky Mann 9th 3 on the par 4 (SI 3)
Alan Bigley 10th 4 on the par 5 (SI 6)

Captains Day

The next monthly meeting is Captain’s Day  which is a full day at Seaford Head on the 16thAugust. We would obviously like to see as many society members as possible fighting it out for the Freddie Jones Foundation Cup – individual and team stableford competitions off full society handicaps will follow an 11-hole Texas scramble warm up – full details nearer the time.
