Ken Wapling with 41 points wins his second event of 2017 on a beautiful day at Westerham Golf Club
A good turnout of eighteen players on the most gorgeous of spring days. The course was in very good condition although the greens were a bit “fluffy” in places. A first in MGS history was that Andy Tippett arrived early and in shorts and completed his round in under 5 hours (just joking). The scoring was very good with the average for the day being 31.4.
Individual Stableford
Two shots ahead of the field Ken Wapling had a great round of golf including converting a birdie on the par 4 (7th hole). Other birdies were made by Tony Batchelder a 3 on the par 4 (2nd Hole); Alan Bond a 3 on the par 4 (12th Hole) & Brian Day with a 4 on the par 5 (16th Hole). The overall top performers were as follows:-
Place | Individual | Score |
Winner | Ken Wapling | 41 |
Second | Alan Bond | 39 |
=Third | Fred Ablitt & Brian Day | 36 |
Winner Longest Drive (Hole 18th): James Gallifant with a truly excellent shot although he did not take full advantage by three putting on the green for a six (after barracking from Chris Buck from the clubhouse).
Winner Nearest the Pin (Hole 11th): Carl Valentine with a nice shot which he thought initially would miss the green but straightened and ended up pin high.
Team Stableford Competition
The team stableford saw all of the above in the mix with the following result:-
Place | Team Members | Score |
Winners | Alan Bond, Chris Buck & Brian Day | 84 |
Second | David Howroyd, Tim Gorringe & Fred Ablitt | 81 |
Third | Dereck Coppard, Roger Todd & Ken Wapling | 79 |
