January 2018 –  East Brighton

Happy New Year – we have seven hardy players signed up for our January event at East Brighton.

The course has entered its 125th  year and at 6,426 yards par 72, presents a genuine challenge for golfers of all handicaps and has a reputation for being a fair test of golf.  The course has a subsoil of chalk which means that the drainage is excellent. It is playable throughout the year no temporary tees or greens. The course is ranked 14th best in Sussex

Venue:             EAST BRIGHTON GOLF CLUB, Roedean Road, Brighton, East Sussex BN2 5RA

NB We will be playing winter rules on Friday as follows:-

If a player’s ball lies on a closely-mown area through the green the player may mark, lift and clean their ball without penalty. Before lifting, they must mark the position of the ball. The player must then place the ball on a spot within six inches of and not nearer the hole than where it originally lay.

Longest Drive

The 18h Hole – to be confirmed

Nearest the Pin

The 7th Hole – to be confirmed

Not sure about the need for a draw with just two tee-times so we will probably see who is ready and raring to go on the day and who wants 5 more minutes in the clubhouse – but provisionally for tradition sake:-

Tee-time Player 1 Player 2 Player 3 Player 4
11.00 Kelvin Paterson (22) Sandi Hoolahan (15) Micky Mann (13)
11.08 David Howroyd (21) Paul Hillman (19) John Coliingwood (28) Kevin Leftley (TBC)

We look forward to seeing you on Friday for what looks like a cold but dry morning with a moderate breeze – bring your baselayers, jumpers, hand warmers, hats and flasks of hot soup/tea/coffee/brandy – managing the weather will be half the battle – although expect to see the Hon Sec in short sleeves as he is from up North!
