James Gallifant romps home to secure emphatic win on a windy and misty day at East Brighton
An excellent number of 21 hardy players turned out for our visit to East Brighton – must be close to a record for a February meeting. However the initial enthusiasm was somewhat tempered by the wind which was severe enough for oscillating balls, flying score cards and all the pin flags being tied down. By the last hour or so, a cold sea mist drifted in to make navigation of the last few holes even more of a challenge, including yours truly, firing in a magnificent 7 iron onto the 17th green only to realise on arrival, it was the 1st!
However, given the conditions, the scoring was surprisingly good with any weather after effects soon forgotten after hot showers a couple of pints of Harveys and what turned out to be a very decent pie and mash.
Post dinner, MGS Captain, Alan Bigley formally welcomed our guests for the day, Simon Luck and Nigel McCoy as well as our now new members, Andrew Jenner and Tony Willmott as well as the traditional Heads and Tails, this time won by David Howroyd.
Prizes were then handed out as follows:
Nearest the pin
Well, what can we say? For the second month running and with over forty attempts, no-one has managed to reached the green in regulation. Umm!
Nearest the Pin in two
A fine effort by Kevin Leftley on the 12th who went on to sink the putt for birdie!
Individual Stableford
A resounding win for Mr James Gallifant who clearly excelled in the conditions to trounce the rest of the field with an excellent 40pts.
