Carl Valentine & Dereck Coppard win the GBH pairs competition on a blustery day at Hever Castle
The society welcomed Charles Plant and Tim Cole as guests on a windy day between two forecast storms at Hever Golf course. The society found the course a tough challenge with the average score being just 23.3 which is lowest average for over 3 years (Piltdown in Oct 15 at 26.29 held that distinction to now!). That said the day was dry and the course was in very good condition for the 20 runners and riders competing for this Stableford pairs better ball competition with the teams being drawn out of the hat the day before the event.
A strange day started with Kelvin injuring his back putting on his golf shoes before hitting his first drive. After a valiant attempt down the first he was forced to retire and search out a hot bath. Dereck’s trolley gave up the ghost before play started whilst Ken’s trolley decided to take a swim on the front 9 wind assisted along with his clubs – Ken as you would expect fished them out and carried on albeit with the odd frog jumping from his bag on the back nine.
The results were as follows: –

Lots of strong pairings fought hard for the trophy which was previously won by Bond & Mann.
