Anniversary Cup at Pyecombe
The Anniversary Cup was won by Micky Mann on a beautiful spring day on top of the South Downs.
A warm welcome to Andy Williams a new member who’s first tee shot off the first was immaculate. Good to see the society attracting Andy along with Kevin Hawkins and Kevin Leftley making their second and third appearances all bringing a good standard of competitive golf to the ranks. The turnout was a tad disappointing with only 14 turning out on a course with spectacular views on a very warm and pleasant day. The average score for the day being 30.29 probably reflecting the fact that a society of green keepers were to follow us round meaning the local greenkeepers had put the flags in the trickiest places to get at and make pars. The prestige’s Anniversary Trophy was at stake in its third year. Micky Mann after a poor start over the first six holes got his act together making a couple of birdies and several very solid pars on the remaining twelve holes to take the overall spoils. The results were as follows: –
Anniversary Trophy – Individual Stableford
Place | Individual | Score |
Winner | Micky Mann | 39 |
Second | Kelvin Paterson | 35 |
Third | Alan Bigley | 34 |
Winner Longest Drive (Hole 9th): Andy Williams with cracker down the par 5 and making a solid par

The next society day is at a firm favourite of the society at Cooden Beach Golf Club for which we are hoping to get a very strong turnout. Two significant pieces of silverware will be at stake the Society Stroke Play Champions Shield open to all members with a handicap below 18 (ish) plus the Society Stableford Champions Shield which is open to all members with a handicap of 18(ish) or above. The exact cut for these competitions is dependent on numbers for the day with the aim of splitting the field evenly 50:50.
