Andrew Burnett wins the last chance trophy by two from David Howroyd who was looking to retain the trophy for another year
“Blow, blow, thou winter wind Thou art not so unkind, As man’s ingratitude.”
– William Shakespeare
With a hard frost turning the greens to concrete and finding your ball (even if coloured yellow, orange or pink) impossible at times we had a challenging days golf at Dewlands. 26 brave soldiers made themselves available for the golf probably prompted by the prospect of a good Christmas Lunch and glass of wine at the Middle House afterwards!! The attire of some of the golfers was impressive and varied with Rod Lunn winning the award for the best Christmas outfit on the day.
The results were as follows:
Last Chance Trophy
Played over the back 9 with timings tight with a non-movable lunch, not everyone completed their round. The result was as follows:-
Place | Player | Score |
Winner | Andrew Burnett | 18 |
Second | David Howroyd | 16 |
Third | Chis Buck & Frank Goulding | 15 |
Texas Scramble
Played over the front 9 holes this should have been a reasonably quick competition which unfortunately due to the conditions and lost balls was not the case. The result was: –
Place | Player | Score |
Winners | Chris Buck, Micky Mann & Jerry Watkiss | -2 |
Second | Joe Carroll, Alan Bigley & Phil Taylor | -1 |
Third | Graham Smith, Rob Montagu, Andrew Burnett & Kevin Leftley | +1 |
Nearest the Pin:
Phil Taylor managing to finish close on this difficult par three which was downhill to rock solid green.
Nearest the Pin in three.
Micky Mann – with a couple of good shots and chip to this again tough hole given the frozen conditions.
An introduction to our new Captain & Vice Captain is on the fabulous MGS website. Additionally, the dates and courses for your 2023 calendar are also shown so please do mark up your diaries accordingly – noting some events will be on a Thursday rather than a Friday
The next monthly meeting is at Eastbourne Down on the 20th January 2023–– full details nearer the time.
The handicaps have not been updated as a number of players were unable to complete their rounds on the day and all the days cards were lost at the course !! So these remain unchanged from last month.
Please remember you can reset your handicap to your club handicap at anytime before the January meeting by dropping a line to bookings@mayfieldgolfingsociety.com or contacting the Handicap Secretary Micky Mann directly.
