The Anniversary Cup is won by John Collingwood with a massive 46 points !

Good to see Malcolm Staplehurst, one of the originals (although he still looks in his mid- thirties) joining the society for the Anniversary Cup at Cooden Beach GC. The average score for the day was a massive 35.22 despite what our resident maths teacher said on the day – he even had his shoes and socks off when he ran out of fingers in a bid to be accurate!!  To make things easier for his memory our Captain called everyone Derek for the day especially Derek Wapling  and Derek Bond his playing partners for the day. On a day with a only a light breeze John Collingwood filled his boots having a fantastic round of golf scoring 46 points and winning this year’s competition by some margin as follows: –

Anniversary Trophy – Individual Stableford

Place Individual Score
Winner John Collingwood 46
Second Andrew Burnett 40
Third Carl Valentine 39

James “Derek” Galifant was well behaved this year – tucking his shirt in following his warning a couple of years back for not being dressed suitably for golf at this course.

Please also check out the Captain’s profile picture on the MGS home page taken on the day by Mr Hughes.

Winner Nearest Pin in three (Hole 18th):  Micky “Derek” Mann probably the one hole he played well on the day – missing the 5ft birdie putt

Winner Nearest the Pin (Hole 12th):  Andrew “Derek” Burnettwith a cracker – again not converting the birdie opportunity.

Team Competition – best two from three

The team competition had a predictable result with first and second above being in the same team with decent score from their third player Mark Hughes to call on:-

Place Team Members Score
Winners John Collingwood, Andrew Burnett & Mark Hughes 95
Second Jerry Watkiss, Kevin Hawkins & Dereck “Ken” Coppard 85
Third Brian Day, Carl Valentine & Micky Mann 83

The next society day is at a firm favourite of the society at Hever Castle Golf Club for which we are hoping to get a very strong turnout.   Two significant pieces of silverware will be at stakethe Society Stroke Play Champions Shieldopen to all members with a handicap below 18 (ish) plus the Society Stableford Champions Shieldwhich is open to all members with a handicap of 18(ish) or above. The cut of for the competitions is dependent on numbers for the day with the aim of splitting the field 50:50.
