Under difficult conditions Carl Valentine edges out Paul Hillman by the smallest of margins to win the Anniversary Cup
A good turnout of twenty players on a day of very heavy showers and bright sunshine. The course was beautiful although the greens were both quick and a little bumpy in places following hollow-tining in early May.
It was difficult to separate the three great rounds of golf from James Gallifant, Carl Valentine and Paul Hillman who lead the field of 20 players. The winner was decided on back-nine countback by a single point as follows:-
|Winner||Carl Valentine||35 (18 back 9 c/b)|
|Second||Paul Hillman||35 (17 back 9 c/b)|
Winner Longest Drive (Hole 5th): Micky Mann – although a few were longer Micky’s remained on the short grass and counted.
Winner Nearest the Pin (Hole 16th): Jerry Watkiss with a fantastic shot to within 4 feet but unfortunately three putted rather than knocking in the birdie as we expect to see from Jerry!!
Team Stableford Competition
The team stableford saw all of the above in the mix with the following result:-
|Winners||Dereck Coppard, Pat Layen & Paul Hillman||78|
|Second||Jerry Watkiss, Carl Valentine & Andy Bishop||76|
|Third||Micky Mann, Tony Batchelder, Kelvin Paterson & James Gallifant||75|
Great to see several players have already played four rounds of golf or more and have both a score in the bag and time to improve it further for the
layer of Year Trophy. The current standings with a long way to go are:
|Player||Rounds||Best 4 Round Average|
A few to watch who have not competed enough to qualify include:
Our next meeting is Captain’s Day competing for the Freddie Jones Foundation Trophy at Dale Hill (Woosnam course) on the 16th June where we are hoping for a high attendance to support our Captain Mr Jerry Watkiss and for some good weather.
