On a day with some very high scores Barry Browning has a fabulous round of golf to edge out Butler and Gorringe for the individual honours at Seaford Head GC
The “Fun Day” at Seaford Head saw 21 players battle it out for various prizes. The weather was good although two heavy showers threatened to put a dampener on events. Many players thrived on the relatively short course with its main defence “the wind” being very light on the day allowing nine players to score 40+ stableford points and feel they were in with chance of taking the spoils on the day – little did they know ! The average stableford score in the individual competition was a massive 37.6 – comfortably the highest of the year so far.
The morning started with an eleven hole Texas Scramble which saw some fabulous golf with the winning team having birdies on holes three, five, eight, nine and ten which was offset be bogies on six and eleven. Thus, the winners were clear of the chasing field as follows:
|Winners||Carl Valentine, Any Bishop & Tim Gorringe||-3|
|=Second||Alan Bigley, James Gallifant & Tom Bennett||-2|
|=Second||Mark Hughes, Andy Tippett & Barry Browning||-2|
The Individual Stableford Competition.
Playing off full society handicaps the winner was Mr Barry Browning who after injury earlier in the year is now back to his very best form – his card showed a superb round of 5 birdies and 5 pars with his worst score being a sixes on the par four 1st and par five 13th .
Thus, the winner and the how did we only come second and third with these scores were as follows:-
|Third||Tim/ Tom Gorringe||48|
Using the long established formulae those who scored over 40 have seen harsh handicap cuts!! The Handicap Sec is happy to discuss with any individual that feels the cut is unfair – we all know the Brian Clough story that might be appropriate again here! Indeed, the Hon Sec has still not forgiven the Handicap Sec for his six shot cut after scoring 46 points At Seaford last year!!
Team Stableford Competition
The usual best three stableford scores from four counted in this competition – bearing in mind the individual competition one team in particular looked well placed. The results were:-
|Winners||Andy Tippett, Barry Browning, Clive Butler & Paul Hillman||148|
|Second||Jerry Watkiss, Ken Wapling, Dereck Coppard & Mark Hughes||135|
|Third||Alan Bigley, James Gallifant, Tim Gorringe & Tom Bennett||130|
Winner Longest Drive (Hole 18th ): Alan Bigley
Winner Nearest the Pin (Hole 10th): Micky Mann
Another enjoyable day on an old favourite, with plenty of good company and chips and tomato sauce with every course!! Our next outing is at:
Venue: Hever Castle Golf Club
Date: Friday 20th October 2017
With two potential rounds to go this year a number of members have already qualified for the player of the year competition which goes to the player with the best four rounds “combined score” for the year. A very close competition this year with just 1 point separating the top 4!
|Player||Played||Best 4 stableford scores added together||Average|
So, all to play for in a very tight competition – I will make no further updates before the Christmas Meal at the Middle House to add a bit of suspense to the proceedings on the day.
